Shanghai Sun Island Resort

The Sun Island Resort of golf courses, spa and vacation villas comprises a chain of resorts located severally in Shanghai, Kunshan, Nanjing and Suzhou. It originated in 1993, a conceptual vision of the Chairman of Prime Group International, Mr Tan Hong Khoon.

He had the vision, energy and resources as well as passion and commitment to seize and convert business opportunities into thriving enterprises. None other could have transformed Sun Island, desolate and abandoned, into what it is today, a world-class sustainable leisure resort.

In China, golf courses started to appear in the 1980s. In a matter of 20 years, there were some 200 courses in China. The Shanghai Sun Island was initiated opportunely to serve Shanghai, which was then starting to assume the trappings of a modern global metropolis. Coincidentally, golf was also fast becoming the unofficial sport of the business world. It has also become an elitist sport.


Right from the beginning, Sun Island has taken pride in safeguarding the natural environment. It spares no effort to preserve and enhance nature's own beauty; wondrous hills and dales; sparkling rivers and lakes; intricate trees and bushes; edible vegetables, such as the Chinese water chestnut and the wild rice shoot; and creatures of the wild like wild ducks, rabbits and boars. These wonders are a delightful distraction.

Over the years, Sun Island has acquired an aura of distinction in developing and managing championship golf courses: 36 holes in Shanghai Sun Island, 27 holes in Kunshan Sun Island, 18 holes in Suzhou Sun Island and 18 holes in Nanjing Sun Island
